Staff Software Engineer: Backend (Python)

Paradym is a well-funded startup that is on a mission to disrupt the gaming industry and innovate player experiences.

Paradym will be the powerhouse behind our global brand, Thrill.com, which we are launching soon. We’ll be competing with the likes of Stake.com.

The company has raised 10m$ funding.
There is significant growth potential and we estimate achieving an annual revenue rate of 200m$ by year 3, with a 10% to 20% profit margin.

Our 600m2 office is in Navigator building at Laeva 2, Tallinn
The team is currently 8 people and we are hiring the core development team.

We are building a B2C Gaming platform that will integrate with 3rd party services.

We will not be developing slot games at this point but we will be developing provably-fair games such as crash, mines, plinko etc.

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer with a passion for problem solving and implementing resilient backends at scale.

The ideal candidate should have good architectural instincts with an insatiable appetite for learning and solving problems with a team. You should have a strong basis in backend technologies such as Python, Django, FastAPI, SQL-based databases and queue-based architectures.

Additionally, you’ll be working closely with our CTO and executive team to help flesh out the rest of the team and architect the backend platform.

This is a full-time hybrid position with the option to relocate to Tallinn, Estonia, or make short trips for team sync-ups. A 4-5 hour time zone overlap with the team is preferable.

• Proven experience as a backend engineer, with a strong portfolio of projects that demonstrate your expertise, ownership and impact. 
• Proficiency in our backend stack (Python + FastAPI, Rust, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, etc.) or similar is required. Expertise with real-time protocols like WebSockets is preferred.
• Experience in building thoughtful and reasonable endpoints and schemas with our frontend team.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound architectural decisions and rapidly iterate on prototypes.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively work with teammates to divide and conquer problems toward shared goals.
• Flexibility to work remotely with a willingness to travel to Tallinn, Estonia for team meetings or consider relocation.
• A driven, team player who takes ownership and pride in delivering exceptional products while fostering a vibrant culture.

You will work closely with our CTO to help flesh out the rest of the team and architect the frontend platform.

Additionally, you’ll be working closely with our frontend team to deliver a seamless and innovative online experience.

Key Responsibilities

• API design and collaboration—work with our frontend teams to design APIs that are efficient and scalable.

• Mentor and expand the team—help recruit and train new team members, and provide guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement. 

• Develop and maintain backend systems—ensure the delivery of high-quality, performant, and scalable backend solutions that provide an outstanding user experience.

• Technical Leadership—Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and planning sessions to drive the success of our projects. Additionally, help inspire the team by delivering thoughtful criticism and a warm helping hand to others.

• Cross-team Product Collaboration—Work closely with our product team to innovate and deliver a magical player experience. 

• Prototyping and Innovation—quickly create prototypes, test new ideas, and integrate user feedback.
